More About Our Story
I believe that art and creativity are fluid. It spills over and out into a multitude of forms. The same creative fervor that propels me to act, write and produce (for film, TV and theatre) somehow fused together with an exciting, new and inspirational vision of swimwear, the Tares Swimwear collection for men.
Passionately driven by the desire to step up the fashion curve for men’s swimwear, I began tearing swimsuit material apart with an inspired irreverence. First with my hands, then with scissors. I experimented with size, shape, dimension. The sensual skin bearing styles and flavors of women’s luxury swimwear were plentiful; A crossover one piece, sectioned two piece, more skin, less skin, classy, sensual, erotic, risqué - there was a noticeable drought in the selection and flavor of men’s swimwear. The great, sensual art of skin bearing that’s so commonly applied in women’s luxury swimwear was painfully absent in men’s traditional square shaped trunks and the cookie cutter speedo designs lacked imaginative promise.
I envisioned a new design category that would be unapologetically fierce, sensual and dynamic, inspiring confidence and game. A symbiotic relationship between color, contrast, and skin bearing tears. The specific size, shape, dimension and juxtaposition of each tear would not only bring the art of skin bearing to life, but take it all one step further. The accompanying set of colors richly imbue the character of each style, and subsequently compliment the unique arrangement of tears (along with size, shape). This artful arrangement of tears might initially appear as chaotic and random, but it is designed with thoughtful precision and purpose, and is what truly determines the identifiable core character of each style (Rebel, King, Ecstasy). A lively transmission of mood, attitude and raw emotion to the visual field of the fabric, engaging the psyche and uplifting the human condition.
I attribute the inspirationally youthful, bold and primal nature that lives at the heart of each style to an aspect of my own life experience – my love of boxing and martial arts.
I feel like I didn’t choose the swimwear category, it chose me. My special connection to the ocean - a longtime source of serenity, wildness, escape and abundant new potential married my appreciation for art as clothing. I channeled what I’ve garnered as an actor/writer, that being a sense of character development, and transferred it to wardrobe design. I knew it would be costly, but I decided that I would not compromise the quality of the design by cutting corners. I put on my producer hat and went all in. I set out to find the perfect style of luxurious, contouring fabric. That fabric was ultimately located in Milan, Italy and imported to a factory in Medellin, Colombia. Several highly skilled Colombian dressmakers hand embroidered and laser cut the fabric to my unique specifications. The result, a radically new and transformational swimwear collection.
I invite you all to be co-creators with me on this exciting, new, revolutionary swimwear journey. The swimsuits are the paint, your bodies are the canvas.
